Nitrous (Laughing gas)

N2O, or Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a weak anesthetic gas that has been in use since the late 18th century. Common use includes both surgical and non-surgical dental procedures.  Most people have experienced nitrous in the context of dentistry. Nitrous is commonly used in dentistry to “take the edge off” and help the patient relax.  Nitrous oxide sedation is a safe form of conscious sedation that has been proven to be highly effective with pediatric patients as well adults.

Intravenous Sedation

For many patients, the thought of undergoing a surgical procedure in the mouth causes extreme anxiety.  This anxiety may be so severe that it prevents the patient from receiving the necessary treatment.  At our office, we are accustomed to treating patients like this.  Because of the advanced training of our doctors and staff, we are able to provide intravenous sedation in order to make your visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible.  Most patients have such a pleasant experience that they have their treatment done and are not even aware that the procedure is completed.

In addition to your comfort, safety is our primary concern.  All of our doctors have had extensive training and experience in the administration of sedation, and are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.  We are equipped with the same monitors and equipment used in the hospital for safe anesthesia.

If you wish to have intravenous sedation, it is customary to see you first for a consultation.  The doctor will review your medical history and discuss the different anesthetic options with you.  It is all right to eat before this first appointment, as your procedure will be scheduled after this consultation has been done.
